What Happened In 2008 ?
Here is a quick list of things that happened in 2008 that I blogged about. Of course there is plenty of other important things that I didn’t get the chance to talk about.
January:
Google Adsense Killers: I have yet to see them kill anything.
The Start of OpenID: The great OpenID project goes full gear.
March:
My BlackBerry Pearl: How would I ever live without this great phone. I am now an official crackberry user.
Netflix Movies On Demand: Downloading movies straight to your tv is going to be a great future.
June:
The FireFox 3 Buzz: I still love this browser but Chrome is doing pretty good also.
July:
Cuil Search Engine: Big rumors about a Google Killer but at the end it has yet to prove anything.
August:
Magazines Online Free: It was a great inatiave and a great idea but it didn’t seem to work. Maybe it will work better in a future.
September:
Google Chrome: Google unveils their own web browser that seems to have a good future so far. I use it every now and then.
October:
It was a slow month for me but I turned 21.
November:
First Black President ever elected in the history of the United States, Barack Obama. For sure the biggest thing of the year in my eyes.
December:
Nothing yet…
I will keep updating this list as times goes by and I remember things. Feel free to add any suggestions.
Also check out Wireds Top Technology Breakthrough of 2008. My favorite of that list is the flexible display which is something I believe we will be seeing a lot in the future.
Cuil, New Promising Search Engine.
Every year brings a bunch of new companies and websites that try taking on the search engine market. But this year there seems to be a worthy competitor entering the game called Cuil. It was developed by ex Google employees who have been making a lot of claims of how great the search engine is. It is considered the “Cuil” way of searching. But what is really surprising of this new search engine is all the media buzz that it has been getting. I took a quick look at it and it seems fine. Nothing revolutionary in it yet. But with all this buzz it is definitely something to keep an eye on for the next year. Let me remind you that it only has a few days since its release…
Update: On a new note TechCrunch recently reported of a new service called Yuil from Yahoo Execs. It is reported to show better results than the much criticized Cuil.
